What started off as a journey of rediscovery now becomes a solidly contemporary expression. Abrar\\\'s paintings started off as a scintilling images that reflected his love of Indian miniature painting, Bengal art and Gandhara sculpture. His arrival on the art scene turned out to be a sensational event collectors soon found a common chord with the women in his painting, the luxuriant strokes and the traditional images. It takes courage for an artist to know that a new direction must be forged, and with this recent work, Abrar moves on firmly into a more contemporary idiom, daring lines and bold colors replace the staid earth tones. A more fluid and experimental drawing offigures, a new way of dividing the picture plane all infuse this work with a brave new personality. The viewer will find here a new expression.
